A Welcome from the Grade 8 Coordinator

Greetings and welcome to the 2009-2010 school year!
On behalf of the grade 8 teachers, we look forward
to the opportunity to teach and strengthen the
skills necessary for your child to become a
life-long learner. We are a prepared and dedicated
team that offers your child an engaging,
challenging, and enriching curriculum that includes
class work alongside extracurricular activities. In
addition to the core classes and electives, we
encourage your child to participate in the numerous
extracurricular activities on offer for middle
school students, such as Model United Nations,
sports teams, and drama productions. The Grade 8
teachers fully encourage and support efforts that
help students to become well-rounded global
citizens.
As the final year before entering high school, grade
8 is meant to prepare your student for the
challenges of high school. As such, the grade 8 year
is often considered by many students to be the most
challenging year of their middle school experience.
It is with this in mind that we encourage open
communication between parents, teachers and
students, in the form of emails, newsletters, phone
calls, meetings, and even classroom blogs. The grade
8 teachers strongly feel that open communication and
mutual collaboration between all parties is the most
effective environment for student success.
Again, the grade 8 teachers welcome you and your
child to the new school year, and we look forward to
a successful year in which student’s grow to meet
the new challenges that lie ahead of them in the
coming year. Please do not hesitate to contact us
regarding any questions about your child or middle
school activities.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Haines
