A Welcome from the Superintendent

Welcome to the Website of the American School of Kuwait!

Our over 1650 students at The American School of Kuwait make us the second largest US State Department supported school in the Middle East and the 15th largest in the world.  Our ability to provide educational excellence is due first to our marvelous faculty as well as to our tremendous team of school Principals.

The ability to ensure that we are preparing children for our preferred future is contingent on the leadership in each of our schools being enlightened, forward-thinking, and responsive to the needs of our children.  At ASK we are proud of our three great Principals:

Mr. Glenn Hooper - High School Principal

Dr. Susan Boyer - Elementary School Principal

Mr. David Brown - Middle School Principal

These three people, pictured above, are key to ensuring that ASK progress moves forward, that our standards are kept high, and, most importantly, that we continue to be able to attract and retain the best teaching staff in the world.  Ours is a faculty of excellence like few others.  In our recent Middle States Accreditation Review the evaluator noted;

"There is a palpable culture of collaboration throughout the school...personnel at ASK would be counted among the upper echelon of professional educators world-wide!"

ASK provides students with a challenging academic program and a thoughtfully designed range of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.  Student services for personal, career, and college counseling are noteworthy.  ASK students are closely monitored in their academic progress and personal development.  Students interviewed during our accreditation visit were articulate and effusive in their praise for how the learning environment and ethos of the school has positively influenced their attitudes, beliefs, and values.

The Illinois curriculum standards, the use of "Understanding by Design" to deliver curriculum and assessment revisions, and the planned professional learning available at the school all point toward ASK continuing to hold its place among the leading accredited schools in the NESA region (Near East South Asia).

ASK is the embassy school of choice in Kuwait, as well as, the choice for all American expatriates in Kuwait who hold high expectations for the education of their child.  We also seek talented students from all over the world to join us.  Our truly international student and teacher community makes us dynamic and unique...and fun!!

As you visit this website, we know you’ll see why we feel the way we do about our great school and its rich history. At ASK, we believe that everyone should always:

  • Think Critically
  • Act With Integrity and
  • Strive for Excellence

Hopefully, you will one day be able to join us at the American School of Kuwait!

Best Regards,

Bernard A. Mitchell, Ph.D.

Superintendent
