A Welcome from the High School Assistant Principal

Dr.
Seuss, the famous children’s author, once wrote a
book titled Oh, the Places You’ll Go. In this
inspiring analogy, he notes the joys and
opportunities that arise as young, independent
learners embark upon life’s journey. He also notes
that challenges and obstacles will occur. High
School is the stage for this journey, and we at the
American School of Kuwait are committed to preparing
our students for the joys, challenges, opportunities
and obstacles that they will encounter in life. In
all that they do, we expect our students to act with
integrity, think critically and strive for
excellence.
Our teaching faculty provides challenging and
rigorous learning opportunities for our students
each and every day. Our goal is to provide
thought-provoking, relevant activities so that our
students can reach true understanding in each
subject area. I invite you to contact the teachers
to find out about the exciting learning
opportunities presented in the various courses. What
occurs in our classrooms is truly inspiring.
As you explore our website, I invite you to pay
particular attention to two documents: the High
School Student Handbook and the 2009-2010 Course
Selection Book. The Student Handbook outlines the
“how-tos” of high school life from absence and tardy
policies, to dress code, to student activities, to
grade information. The Course Book provides
information about specific courses and resources.
There is a Greek Proverb that states: “Whatever is
good to know is difficult to learn.” Students, I
challenge you to dive into your learning, engage in
your coursework and gain a deeper understanding of
your subjects. Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year
at the American School of Kuwait. We are proud to
serve you the finest that education can provide.
Regards,
Tara Waudby
High School Assistant Principal
