Welcome to the World Languages Department at ASK!

As technology and globalization shorten distances among countries, people without the ability to communicate in a foreign language are at a disadvantage. Therefore, at ASK, we offer students the opportunity to learn either French or Spanish as a foreign language, and we encourage them to use it to acquire knowledge and information, as well as to gain an insight to other cultures.

There are countless reasons to learn a foreign language:

  • It fosters cognitive and thinking skills.

  • It improves one’s understanding of his/her native language.

  • It allows people to see their own culture from a different perspective.

  • It fosters understanding and appreciation of our world’s cultural diversity.

  • It is an asset in the business world and a requirement for many careers.

  • It makes it possible to enjoy literary works in their original versions.

  • It gets students ahead with college requirements – Foreign Language is the only high school elective course required in college!

In the World Languages Department, we strive to enable students to communicate efficiently in the foreign language and encourage them to appreciate other cultures. In our classes, we provide many opportunities to develop the four languages skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, while emphasizing communication and cultural awareness.

If you have any questions concerning the World Languages Program at ASK, do not hesitate to contact me at martinf@ask.edu.kw.
