Welcome to ASK’s Mathematics Program!

Welcome to the American School of Kuwait Mathematics Department Homepage. At ASK we offer a Math program specifically designed for college-bound students. Included in the program are the required core classes for basic math competency and advanced classes for those students who may want more of a challenge.

The core class sequence is Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II and the advanced courses offered are Pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus (AB) and AP Statistics. Also for students who have completed Algebra II, Applications of Math (a project-based exploration of Mathematics) is offered.

Students in the regular track take Algebra I in grade 9 and complete their core math requirement by taking Algebra II grade 11. And many of those students choose to continue their study by enrolling in Pre-Calculus or Applications of Math in grade 12. Advanced students take Algebra I in grade 8 and complete their core requirement by taking Pre-Calculus in grade 11. They will then have the option to further their study with an AP class in grade 12.

Academic expectations at ASK are high; consequently, AP classes are only recommended for students who exhibit both a personal maturity and a rigorous proficiency in mathematics. A grade of ‘B’ or better in Algebra II is required for admittance into AP Statistics and a ‘B’ or better in Pre-Calculus is required for admittance into AP Calculus.

We also believe in the effective instruction of technology and therefore, Graphing Calculators (preferably TI-83 or TI-84) are required for all math classes starting with Algebra II.

Although ASK students are required to complete only 3 years of mathematics, it is strongly recommended that each student continue studying math during their senior year.

Between the experience and skill of our faculty and the enthusiasm and hard work of our students, it has been and continues to be a rewarding joy to be part of such a wonderful department.
