Grade 4
Students in
Fourth Grade are placed in self-contained classrooms
for their core curriculum: Math, Language arts,
Social Studies, and Science. Specialists in Library,
Life Lab, Science Lab, Drama, Music, Art, Computer
Science and Physical Education support learning in
the core areas. In Math, various problem-solving
strategies are taught, in addition to a review of
advanced subtraction, addition, multiplication and
division. Fractions, decimals and geometry are also
introduced. Language Arts includes a variety of
activities focused on enhancing students writing and
reading. Students learn the 6+1 traits of writing.
Students work in literature circles that use a wide
variety of fiction and non-fiction literature and
complete story summaries and comprehension
activities. In Social Studies, students study the
five regions of the United States, map and
globe-reading skills and an in-depth look at Kuwait
culture and traditions. Science includes the study
of Electricity and magnets, Light and Color, the
Human Body and Your Place in Space. In addition to
classroom lessons, the students are taught through a
"hands-on" laboratory setting weekly. The scientific
method is emphasized with each concept.
