Grade 4

Welcome on board fourth grade here at ASK! We are a diverse team of educators who are excited to serve, and enable your child to become an active learner on their educational journey. Our goal is to integrate, and present differentiated instruction to meet the unique learning style of students.

In language arts, students will be working in guided and independent reading groups to learn reading strategies that will enable them to become active readers. They will be working in reading groups to read fiction and non-fiction while developing new and building upon previously learned reading strategies. Students are expected to compare what they read to other texts, and relate what they read to self and to the world they live in. In writing, they will explore various genres and apply 6+1 Writing Traits in the writing pieces that will be showcased in their writing portfolio.

Our math program aims at providing opportunities for students to become independent thinkers, share responsibility for their learning, and to appreciate the value of working together. Students learn more about numerical concepts and operations, data analysis, algebra, geometry, and measurement. Students are encouraged to use manipulatives to recognize patterns, and derive strategies to solve problems.

We encourage students to embrace diversity and work towards community building by creating cultural awareness within the grade level community. The geography themes covered this year lend themselves to a great opportunity to discuss the impact of climate on lifestyle and social norms of various cultures. Students will be focusing on developing mapping skills. They will discover more about Kuwait, the regions of the United States, and U.S Government.

In science, students enjoy experiential learning in the lab while they learn new concepts. This year they will learn about the importance and use of electricity and magnetism as they gain hands on experience of building various types of circuits. They will discover that light is composed of various colors and explore the various properties of light using prisms. As global warming has become a current concern they will work towards discovering more about the Earth’s features and changes. To spark their curiosity even further they will learn about the human body and the function of major body systems.

In fourth grade we work towards fostering independence, critical thinking, and accepting personal responsibility. We encourage students to build upon previously acquired knowledge and enable them to apply it across the curriculum. We look forward to working alongside with parents, our school community, and beyond to help each child in fourth grade blossom to their highest potential!

Sincerely,
