Grade 3
Third Grade students are placed in self-contained
classrooms for their core curriculum subjects: Math,
Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
Third graders attend Specialist classes for Art,
Music, Computers, Physical Education, Life Lab,
Library, and Drama.
Place value, U.S. money, addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division, fractions, decimals,
geometry, graphing and measurement are the focus of
our math program. Reading classes include both
fiction and non-fiction literature as students
experience a guided reading program for their
individual level.
Our Language Arts classes will use the 6+1 writing
traits program. Third graders will grow from
writing various types of sentences to paragraphs,
stories, poetry, and letters. Writing to
inform, describe, and express opinion will be used
in all subjects.
Science units this year will include introductory
chemistry, simple machines, the desert biome, and
introductory geology. Our Science program
includes a lab session conducted by our Science
Specialist each cycle.
Social Studies units will focus on communities,
geography, U.S. government and economics.
Technology is integrated with several subjects
during the year as the use of a second computer lab
is utilized each cycle.
