A Welcome from the Arabic Principal

It is our pleasure to address you, once again, on
this site. Although the 06 - 07 Academic Year was an
extremely successful one for our department, we look
forward to the opportunity to learn and improve even
more this academic year.
I am proud of the performance of our Arabic and
Islamic Studies teachers here at the American School
of Kuwait. Due to their efforts I am certain that we
will witness continued improvement in the level of
understanding of our students and in the achievement
of their goals.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) Program at the
American School of Kuwait
The Ministry of Education in Kuwait required that
foreign students study Arabic as a foreign language
(AFL) as an obligatory course for all non Arabic
speakers from grade 3 till grade 9. The AFL
curriculum is under constant evaluation and revision
by the Ministry of Education in Kuwait.
The main goal is to have an introduction to Arabic
culture in the elementary level and to further the
student’s understanding throughout High School. This
will enable the students to increase their
vocabulary, which will allow them to communicate
freely and interact easily within the Arabic
