ASK in the Past
The American School of Kuwait has been established
for thirty-nine years. It was only through the
hardships and challenges that ASK reached the point
of being the best school in Kuwait. The history of
ASK is one that is long but is also extremely
interesting and fascinating.
The American School of Kuwait was founded in 1961.
In 1963, a group of American parents selected a
board of Trustees for the purpose of establishing an
international school patterned after the authentic
American educational plan. During September 1964,
the American School of Kuwait began its first
official term under the name of the "International
School of Kuwait" in a large villa in the Dasman
Area of Sharq. A full program for grades
Kindergarten through twelfth was provided for
seventy-five students. These students came from
several different countries.
The original faculty consisted of sixteen full time
teachers and three part time teachers. In 1969, the
school moved to a new building in Surra where it was
used by both the middle and the high school. The
facilities offered in the Surra campus were greatly
improved and enrollments increased. It was at that
time that the ministry of Kuwait requested that the
school change their name to the "American School of
Kuwait". Subsequently, this highly respected and
well organized high school received U.S.
accreditation from The Middle States Association of
College and Secondary School in 1971.
The American School of Kuwait had a huge setback
when the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq took place
during the school year of 1990 to 1991. However, it
was still able to open in September 1991. Years
later in 1995, ASK moved to a Hawalli campus, where
it is still residing today.
ASK is indefinitely known as an excellent school
that offers the best American Curriculum. ASK has
truly come along a long way since it was first
established. The successes and accomplishments
achieved by this school has made every institute in
Kuwait extremely proud.
