Graduates of the Class of 1967

Nasser Mosaad Al-Sayer

A graduate of ASK and the chairman of a prosperous and successful bank, Mr. Nasseer Mosaad Al-Sayer has certainly excelled tremendously in his life. His accomplishments are one that many revere, respect and most of all, look up to.

Mr. Al-Sayer graduated from ASK in 1967. His experience was one that he describes as "new, but yet, challenging." Nevertheless, it was a school he was able to cope with successfully. When giving a description of ASK he stated, "Our school was a four story flat. The number of students attending school was quiet small compared to the number of students attending ASK today.

The activities offered in ASK were very limited. "This is understandable because ASK then was only a school that opened three years prior to the time that I started attending." Although ASK was not as it is today, it still did a miraculous job in providing the American curriculum to its students. It also made the student enjoy school and capture many life long memories.

The memory of the past and the reality of the present are two vastly different things for Mr. Al-Sayer. When he attended ASK in 1967, the school was only alive for three years unlike the present, where it has been open for thirty-six years. It is known that ASK's location "was not large", its classes were "small", and its activities were "limited". When looking at ASK today he states, "ASK has changed a great deal and has grown to a large extent. It has expanded as has excelled incredibly. It is a school that has an international body of teacher and students. With its current facilities, it has been able to take the lead in influencing the American standard of education among its students.

" It can be said that ASK has truly improved. Mr. Al-Sayer mentioned, "I believe that ASK has excelled in teaching it's students the ability to learn the ability to learn, relate, and understand other cultures, while learning from the American form of education that is provided. Students are broadening their area of research and knowledge. This is done at an early age which will help them be at early age which will them be fully prepared for any challenges or obstacles that may come in their way while reaching their ultimate goal."

"Hopefully, with all of the skills that ASK has taught them they are able to overcome fortuitously these obstacles or challenges. I have a daughter and a son who graduated from ASK. They enjoyed going to ASK. I believe with the forms of education that ASK has provided they have graduated with more self-confidence."

ASK is proud to be in association with an individual such as Mr. Al-Sayer. He is someone who attended ASK when it first began, and is fortunate though, to have the opportunity everyday to see it grow and maintain a reputation of a highly acclaimed school.

Sheik Ali Jaber Al-Sabah

There will always be a place for ASK in Sheik Ali Jaber Ali Al-Sabah's fond memories.

Attending ASK allowed Sheik Al-Sabah to attain the American form of education and at the same time make unique, lasting memories that he believes will last him a life time. He was part of the graduating class of 1967, where he was one of three Kuwaiti graduates: "Graduating from ASK allowed me to get accepted in IOWA state university."

It was known that there was a limited number of international schools. Sheik Al-Sabah picked ASK because he believes that ASK, "enabled me to study the American curriculum that I had already been exposed to as a child living overseas and at the same time have the accommodations of home, plus the setting of the Kuwaiti culture."

When describing ASK he states, "The school was only a villa near Dasman palace. It had very limited no of facilities. There were no microscopes or anything that deal with science or technology. Our senior class was only composed of 20 people. It was said that our senior class was very peculiar, In spite of all these disadvantages, ASK was still a good school and I enjoyed attending it immensely."

The American school of Kuwait continues to offer a great deal, Sheik Al-Sabah believes that, "ASK offers the of the American form of education. If any individual wants to study in the United States then they should have the best American education or in another words they should have the real thing. This is why many students attend ASK. I believe it is a school that offers a very good starting point."

It is almost impossible to put down all the different ways ASK has excelled. The greatest way ASK has excelled in Sheik Al-Sabah's eyes is by "staying alive and going on for so long." It was located in a small villa. The student body was only dependent upon a particular project. I always wondered about its future. I find it astonishing as amazing that ASK today has its roots from the school I attended. Looking back, I believe that ASK's successes are due to Mr. Abdul Ghafoor's generosity.

Sheik Al-Sabah recalls the year 1968-1969 when the school faced some financial difficulties. The positive attitude of the students and staff helped keep the school alive. The students always took the initiative to put forth a positive effort.

ASK has come an unbelievably long way. ASK is fortunate to have still have Alumni's such as Sheikh Al-Sabah who truly appreciates the hard work that ASK has gone through to become the school it is today.
